2022-23 Welcome Letter

Dear Barcroft Families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year! We missed you and your children and can’t wait to start another school year. We are very excited about our plans for this school year and will make sure the year ahead is filled with new learning, community and joy.  Below, you will find important dates and information for the upcoming year:

NEW THIS YEAR: Class Assignments and Bus Information: Teacher assignments will not be mailed to families. Teacher assignments and bus information will be available in ParentVUE by the end of the day August 19th. If you need help logging into ParentVUE, please contact the main office.

NEW DISMISSAL TIME: APS made adjustments to start and dismissal times across the district to provide additional instructional time and support transportation efficiencies. For the upcoming 2022-23 school year, Barcroft will continue to start at 9:00 a.m., with a new dismissal time of 3:50 p.m. Students should arrive at school in the morning between 8:40 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. Families arriving after 9:00 a.m. will need to accompany their children to check in at the main office. Late arrivals and early departures will need to be recorded by parents in the main office.

BARCROFT OPEN HOUSE: All families are invited to come to the school, meet teachers, and visit classrooms. We will host an Open House on Thursday, August 25th from 8:45 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.  for PreK and Kindergarten families and from  4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. for first through fifth graders.  (Parents are welcome to bring Prek and Kinder students to the afternoon Open House if better for their schedule)

SCHOOL SUPPLIES:  This year teachers have kindly offered to pick up school supplies for their students and get reimbursed. (Staff have shopped looking for sales and discounts all summer). We have no supply lists and students do not need to bring supplies. We are asking families to provide a $25.00-$50.00 donation per student to help defray the costs of the school supplies. You can turn the money into your child’s teacher or to Mr. Garcia in the main office.

BARCROFT SAFETY PATROL PROGRAM: Barcroft fourth and fifth graders are invited to apply to be a safety patrol. Applications will be available to all fourth and fifth graders at the Open House and the first day of school. Ms. Cornacchio will be the patrol sponsor this year.

ARRIVAL: School doors will open at 8:40 a.m. each morning. Each day students should arrive at school between 8:40 a.m. and 8:55 a.m. We strongly encourage all students to be at school by 8:50 a.m. so they have time to eat breakfast if they wish, and are settled into class before instruction begins at 9:00 a.m. Students must be in their seats at 9:00 a.m. when attendance is taken in the classroom. Students not in their seats at 9:00 a.m. are tardy and must obtain a pass from the office. Please do not have your child/ren arrive before 8:40 a.m. as we do not have staff to supervise them. For the first week of school, and after as needed, safety patrols and staff will assist students getting to their classrooms.

  • Door 1: All bus riders and second – fifth grade students
  • Door 11: All Kindergarten and first graders
  • Students will pick up a grab and go breakfast at the door they enter.

BREAKFAST AND LUNCH: Barcroft Elementary is one of five schools serving free breakfast and lunch to ALL students. No applications are required. We will continue to eat outside unless there are unfavorable weather conditions. You can find school menus on the Nutrislice website here.

DISMISSAL: Talk to your children about how they will come home from school on the first day. We will dismiss bus riders and car riders from Door #1. Kindergarten and first graders who are being picked up walking will be dismissed from Door #11. Second through fifth graders who are being picked up or walking will be dismissed from Door #5. Pre-K students will be dismissed by the Relocatables. Remember that your child must be at least 8 years old to walk home alone. At Open House families can pick up a name tag to indicate your child’s teacher and how they will come home from school.

DISMISSAL CHANGES: If after-school plans change, please notify the homeroom teacher that morning by either a note or email. Please be aware, the office can not accept changes to dismissal plans after 3:15 p.m. A reminder–you can no longer pick up your child between 3:25 p.m. and dismissal. This minimizes classroom disruption, as instruction continues until 3:50 p.m.

APPOINTMENTS: In order for students to perform well academically they must be present for instruction. If your child has an appointment and needs to be picked up early from school, please plan extra time to park and check in at the front office. Once you arrive, please sign out your student in the Raptor system.  It typically takes 5 to 10 minutes for your child to come to the office. Following this procedure minimizes disruptions to the instructional program. We thank you in advance for your support. (Again, pickups from classrooms are available until 3:25 p.m.)
